TUBERCULOSIS (TB)

What is TB?

TB is an infectious disease primarily of the lungs caused by Mycobacterium tuberculosis.  Tuberculosis is spread from person to person through the air when a person with active disease coughs or sneezes.  Medicine is available to cure Tuberculosis.

What are the symptoms of TB?

Productive cough for 3 weeks or longer, Bloody Sputum, Fever, Chills, Weight Loss, No Appetite, Night Sweats, Weakness/Fatigue

How is TB diagnosed?

A PPD Mantoux skin test, chest x-rays, sputum smears and cultures.

What is TB Control?

TB Control is an organized program of the Ector County Health Department to stop the spread of tuberculosis.
